ROTAIR Unveils VRK-e Compressor

ROTAIR SPA, the Italian portable compressor brand under India's ELGi Group, has
officially launched the VRK-e prototype, recognized as the world's first variable frequency
drive electric portable compressor. The innovative new model has also earned a
nomination for the SaMoTer Innovation Award, drawing wide attention across the global
construction and compressed air industry.
Engineered to replace traditional diesel-powered portable compressors, the VRK-e
adopts a pure electric layout paired with advanced variable frequency drive technology,
delivering zero direct emissions, lower noise output and outstanding energy efficiency.
It is perfectly suited for urban construction, enclosed working spaces, residential area
renovation and other emission and noise-sensitive job sites.

The new prototype comes with two core power specifications. The 7.5kW version provides
an air delivery of 1,050 L/min at 7 bar, ideal for light-duty tasks including equipment
maintenance and sandblasting. The 11kW variant reaches 1,600 L/min at 7 bar, capable of
supporting medium infrastructure projects, industrial purging and dry ice cleaning
applications.
Thanks to intelligent variable frequency control, the compressor automatically adjusts
motor speed according to real air demand, cutting energy consumption significantly
compared with conventional fixed-speed models. Its all-electric design eliminates exhaust
emissions, making it compliant with global carbon neutrality goals and suitable for indoor,
underground, food-industry working environments with strict air quality requirements.
Nominated for the prestigious SaMoTer Innovation Award, the VRK-e has been
acknowledged for its technological breakthroughs, sustainability value and market-
oriented design. As a milestone product in the portable compressor sector, the launch of
VRK-e marks a major step toward electrification and intelligent upgrading of the global
mobile compressed air equipment industry.
ROTAIR stated that the VRK-e prototype will make its global debut at the 2026 SaMoTer
International Construction Machinery Exhibition in Verona, Italy, from May 6 to 9, where
on-site operation demonstrations and technical exchanges will be held. The brand will
collect market feedback to further optimize the product, accelerate the mass production
process, and is expected to officially launch the commercial version to the global market
by the end of 2026, bringing greener and more efficient solutions to industries worldwide.
